Northern Virginia Regional Park Foundation
Hosts 2nd Wheel 2 Work on the W&OD Trail

Fairfax Station, VA (August 31, 2009) – Want to ride your bike to work, but can’t find the best route? Let Wheel 2 Work help you find your way! The Northern Virginia Regional Park Foundation will host Wheel 2 Work on the W&OD Trail on Saturday, September 19th from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is free and will take place at the Town of Herndon Square on Elden Street, off the W&OD Trail.

The Foundation is partnering with the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and Herndon Parks and Recreation to host this event. Other participants include the Reston Bike Club, the Fairfax Department of Transportation, REI, Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling (FABB), The Bike Lane and the Friends of the W&OD Trail. This fun, free and informative event will give commuting cyclists the opportunity to learn their quickest and safest route to work.

“With more commuters cycling to work, safety has become a greater concern along the W&OD Trail. The Foundation is hosting the event to not only help cyclists map out their quickest route to and from work, but also to implement safety riding suggestions,” said Paul Gilbert, Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Executive Director.

Event will offer great prizes, including a gift certificate for a comprehensive tune up donated by the Bike Lane. There will be a seminar at 10:15 from The Bike Lane’s professionals, some Cycling Essentials - from safety tips to fall and winter gear, things you must know! The event will include take home maps and goody bags, equipment demonstrations, free water bottles and detailed maps and routing experts to help you map your ride to work.

“This event highlights the opportunities of cycling to work, reducing carbon emissions, and doing so safely. Hopefully, it will encourage safe and healthy alternatives to driving and remind people that there are alternatives even in our suburban areas,” remarked Rob Hartwell, Northern Virginia Regional Park Foundation President.
