I'm new to biking and am riding from Vienna to Leesburg on a Trek hybrid, is this a good combination?
>> Your legs burn and felt firmer. Of course, it is a good combination
. Do it more often.
..any suggestions on how to A) Prevent saddle soreness, B) Ease the existing discomfort?
>> Best fitting saddle depends on your anatomy and what is most comfortable for your friends may not work for you. If you are a casual rider with emphasis on fitness and comfort over speed I would recommend an ISM saddle such as Adamo Typhoon. I read that both male/female riders rated it as a comfortable saddle. I tried 9 different saddles before settling on it finally. You can get it online for about $60. I commute 20 miles each day and ride 40-60 miles on weekend. My behind and its owner thanks me for making a switch from a stock race bike saddle to this saddle. Worst thing that can happen is a jerk online gave you a bad advice and you are out of 60 clams.
Ease the existing discomfort?
>> Lycra/Spandex have its role
. Every sport requires proper clothing for optimal enjoyment and performance. If you are a female, there are tons of pretty and functional short/jerseys. Move around on the saddle so the pressure points of your body and the saddle are always shifting. Sitting on the cushy sofa eating pop corns and watching a movie is easy. Getting on a bike, pedaling to far-a-way places with your own power is difficult and physically can be painful. Keep this up and soon you will lose more weight, look better and feel better.
Good luck and keep riding!
