Does anyone have a good route to ride from Vienna, VA to Washington, DC? I didn't realize the W&OD ended at Shirlington until I was out riding this morning. Is there a place to cut from the W&OD to another trail that reached DC or will I have to use surface streets somewhere along the way? I am riding a Recumbent Trike, see www.trikeland.com or http://trikelandblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/half-metric-century.html for details. The wheels are fatter than a road bike but mostly treadless. So paved or well groomed routes are preferable. Any tips would be appreciated. Larry Blakely Vienna, VA

In Falls Church, on the W&OD, there is a path called the I-66 Trail that splits off the W&OD.  The I-66 Trail goes all the way to Key Bridge and also connects to the Mount Vernon Trail.  You can see more detail on the exact path at http://bikewashington.org/trails/wad/custis.htm.

East of Falls Church, you can connect either with the Custis Trail to Key Bridge, or the Four-Mile Run trail to National Airport.  The links below offer detailed maps of preferred bike routings in N. VA

I was just looking for the same thing. I was interested in getting a partner to ride with otherwise I have too many excuses not to ride. Are you by any chance in Reston? I'm looking for someone who's not super fast maybe 14/15 mph.
