Join hundreds of bicycle commuters to celebrate Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 18, 2007, from 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Reston Town Center. Each year since 2002, cyclists have gathered at the Town Center for a free breakfast, raffles of bike-related prizes, and bicycling information tables.  Pre-registered people also get a free t-shirt. Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins will greet the riders at 8 a.m.

Employer Challenge: Bikers from the organization with the most participants at the Reston event will receive a free lunch from Reston Whole Foods Market.  The U.S. Geological Survey has captured the employer challenge for five years in a row.  Ride with some coworkers from your office and try to break the streak!

New this year:  Bike commuting 101 onsite at your place of employment.  Get ready to ride by attending a free seminar on the basics of bicycle commuting conducted by Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling (FABB).  To request a seminar at your office, call LINK at 703-435-5465.

Also new this year: Fairfax County is installing bike racks on Fairfax Connector buses. A Connector bus with one of the new racks will be available at the Town Center for demonstrations during Bike to Work Day.

Reston Bike to Work Day is organized by LINK, Fairfax County, Reston Association, Reston Bike Club, Friends of the W&OD Trail, and Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling, and is supported by local sponsors Whole Foods Market, Great Harvest Bread Co., A-1 Cycling, Greenberry's Coffee & Tea Co., and Virginia Department of Transportation. If you are interested in becoming a local sponsor of Reston Bike to Work Day, please contact Bruce Wright at 703-758-8183.

May is National Bike to Work Month, and hundreds of bicycling commuters from the Washington metropolitan region will be out pedaling in celebration of this clean, inexpensive, and healthful means of transportation. The Reston event is held under the auspices of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) and Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA).  Celebrations will occur at various locations around the metro area on May 18.
